John William Banther has made solo appearances in Boston, Amsterdam, London, Italy, throughout the Netherlands, and has been featured on television as a soloist. John was also a soloist with the Orchestra Sinfonica della Valle d'Aosta as a prize winner at the International Tuba Competition in Aosta, Italy in 2010. John made his international debut in 2007 at the Melos Brass Seminar in Corfu, Greece performing with a tuba quartet and brass choir. Involved in chamber music, John is a member of the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet, and the Amsterdam Brass Quintet, which is currently recording a new album.
Active as an orchestral musician John was Principal Tuba with the Boston Civic Symphony from 2007-2009 and has performed with Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Radio Chamber Philharmonic, Ebony Band, The Florida Orchestra, Holland Symfonia, and the Netherlands Symphony Orchestra among others.
John graduated with his BM with honors from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2009 studying with Mike Roylance, and graduated with his MM from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in 2011 studying with Perry Hoogendijk. John currently lives in the Netherlands and is also the founder of the music and social media project The Story Behind The Music.
